Wandering well off topic here, but some teens in the Big Sur area went missing a few years ago. Thinking to alert search helicopters to their presence they lit a signal fire, which proceeded to burn the meadow they were in and an extensive amount of the Julia Pfeiffer Redwoods. They were rescued and their parents were sent a $3 million bill for firefighting.

S'pose they would have better burned their shoes and money!
