And remarkably that boat is also nice for non-small people. I'm 6' 0" and 180 lbs and found it to be a good boat. My wife has the plastic Shadow and is looking to upgrade to glass or kevlar next year so I thought I would give it a spin. Where the plastic boat is almost too tight the glass boat was comfortable.

A couple of notes from the Perception rep at The Great Lakes symposium. Next year they are changing the foot pegs to be the gas peddle type for controlling the rudder (solid foot pegs) and they are going to offer a skeg version of the boat (even better). The skeg version will put it up there in contention with the Romany 16 for my wife next year.

The kevlar Shadow is delightfully light. My partner for the rescue class was a lady in a kevlar Shadow. So easy to drain the boat during a T rescue.

I was also surprised when I tried the Shadow, pleasantly so. My partner, Amie,
wants one. It is, I understand, a Sea Lion (as a result of Perception absorbing
Aquaterra). What I'm curious about is: is it just a Sea Lion, or is it modified from
the original Sea Lion design (other than cosmetically)?

With those mods, maybe I should get Amie to wait til next year.

Nancy, in the yellow and red metalflake version? That's a cool looking kayak.

Mike

I think the length and width have been tweaked but the basic hull shape is the same. Don't hold me to that though. The Eclipse is supposed to be a larger version (which I didn't like).

Someone else asked if the new rudder pedals were like they had in NZ, IIRC. Not knowing what they have there all I can say is that I was given the impression they would be like the style currently used in the Seaward Kayaks.

I'm lucky in that Julie has to wait till next year anyways (carpal tunnel is a nasty affliction...).

Yep, that was her. It was definitely a beautiful boat paddled by a great lady. I had the pleasure of paddling with her on the Friday trip, she was in my little pod of kayakers.

That was the first symposium I have ever been too and I was pleased with everyone I met. I had the pleasure of carpooling to the Friday trip put in with Mark (I blank on the last name). He was one of the staff and also one of the vendors demoing boats on the beach Saturday and Sunday. He sold the badairka, skin boats. He had one of those pleasant, gruff, blunt personalities. On Sunday morning I paddled one of his boats. After the paddle as I was getting out I commented on how good the boat was. His reply: "I knew that, I just didn't know if you were a good enough paddler to know that." I had to keep from laughing and still chuckle when I think about it.

Mel (who was pleased that he could still roll this last Sunday, the first time since learning at the symposium).

Heh, heh... ahhh... that means we were paddling together, Mel! Amie (purple Solstice) and I (yellow
Solstice) were in Gary's group as well. Small world!

Mark Rogers. He builds some awfully lovely replicas. I didn't paddle one,
I was too busy with all the other kayaks.
