[Paddlewise] an east coast paddle story

During the Spring migration, there are many whales coming through,
and I enjoy paddling with all of them, but the locals and I are good
friends, and it's really special to be able to hang out with them. A
couple of them let me touch them, and one likes to play with my boaty
- by gently pushing the bow around.

I would really love to paddle in Maine sometime (and about a thousand
other places around the world) - so do tell us all about it!

Melissa

melissa, your whale stories are so awesome....now at least i know how
you manage to paddle in the winter months. i would look some silly
paddling about on the ice in maine lakes......the ocean is open
HOWEVER....the water temperature remains 40-50 degrees in the
winter....a mere 5-10 degree variation from the summer....(it's the
air temp that really makes the difference)

as to kayaking stories, my best friend and i went out kayaking this
summer in cobscook bay. it was in the afternoon as we had to pay
attention to the extreme tides (28 ft change) that make it a tricky
place to paddle. we were lucky as it was calm and serene (most times
when my bud drags me out it turns into a windy free for all!)

we paddled 5 miles up into the bay....callllm beeeautiful...eagles
and the occassional osprey.

as we hit a particular cove, we were surprised by seals...nosy lil
buggers.....who followed us closer and closer....for MILES! and a
few of them had the audacity to slap they wee (not) bodies into the
water next to our kayaks....(they are SOOO big!)

okay thats all from maine....
weebee and the parrots
