kind of grumpy lately about Paddlewise and people. So Sorry. >>

It's amazing how online communication between people who don't know each
other, yet do get emotionally involved in issues, can be so in depth.

I look at the subject line and the senders' names and already there is a
reaction. With Doug we know we're usually going to get something profound
and meaningful. Ralph will come up with all sorts of interesting topics that
invariably lead to long threads.

Some want to stick to the basics of paddling, while others just enjoy reading
the messages and learning.

<< I mentioned to the list I was going to back off a bit, and I got
a ton of e-mail back-channel (mostly) saying the list would be boring,
and people would miss all my great posts. >>

I was one of them.

<< What IS a real kayaker anyway? Is a middle-aged, overweight housewife
whose just taken up the sport and found something transcendent to
domestic enslavement, not a "real" paddler? >>

Aw, shucks, Doug, ya got me all figured out, haven't ya? (well, except for
the housewife part. Unfortunately, I gotta work.)

I have nothing to prove and everything to enjoy. The serenity and inner
fulfillment I get from paddling down Florida's rivers and creeks, looking at
the scenery and wildlife, jumping into springs for a dip, and camping with
friends has no rival. However, I also get a kick out of armchair travel and
paddling. Everything has a place.

<<< I can only trust some of you had the grace and patience to bear with this
post. If not, that is okay too. BC'in Ya Doug Lloyd ("Love thyself last"
-W.S.)>>

"grace and patience" are virtues we could all use
