Nice trip report, Scott. Sounded like a pretty mellow paddle. My old Southern
California genes were definitely activated. Sounds like it was pleasant
weather. Here it is 20 knots of cold rain and bluster.

My admiration and respect is held out for folks like Duane who volunteer for
duty with a multitude such as you describe (20 paddlers).

I suspect "herd mentality" explains the presence of folks who would not have
attempted your trip alone: the feeling that they will be safe in numbers.
That is one of the reasons I do not do paddles with large groups, and part of
the basis for my admiration for folks who do lead large groups.
