Got a couple off-PW buddies interested in information on Padre Island National Seashore, down near Corpus Christie, TX. I shot them the NPS' Web site URL, but they are interestd in the impressions of folks who have visited there. They want to do some paddling, but will need to rent boats. Any good beta on that? How about a trip report or six? Thanks. -- Dave Kruger Astoria, OR *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s). Hi Dave, A good place to post this would be on the GASP list. Quite a few subscribers some of whom might even invite your friends to come along for a paddle. Some of them are subscribed to PaddleWise. Gasp is not a busy list but has quite a few subscribers (nothing like PaddleWise, though). (see http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/ ) It would be helpful to know when they are going to be in the area, how long, are they wanting to camp out? Primitive camping? What type of gear will they be bringing? Are they willing to travel a little ways up the coast to Aransas National Wildlife Refuge? Also, check out Ken Johnson's post about paddling the Corpus Christi area. He has provided some very good information for put-ins and take-outs to some great places to paddle in the area. http://www.gasp-seakayak.net/kjinfo.html Jackie *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s). I thought maybe I'd be in Houston over Christmas and might get a chance to paddle with Natalie but we got a good deal on airfare so I'm going to be out in California for 10 days. At this point I don't have any specific plans to go paddling but should the opportunity arise... I'm going to be in Mendocino county visiting relatives (that's where I was born) for several days right after Christmas. We haven't really planned the rest of the trip but we might head up further north and spend a day in Eureka before going inland (my father lives in Red Bluff). Then we'll probably head back south and possibly spend some time in the bay area or head down to Monterey for a couple of days. In any case, I know that'll be near a lot of water during the trip and would certainly welcome the chance to get out an paddle some. If anyone is planning on doing some paddling in any of those areas shoot me some email and maybe I can join you. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s). > They want to do some paddling, but will need to rent boats. National Seashore has entrance fee ($4 day or $7 wk I think, not sure) and camp fee ($6 nite I think). Has small museum, snack store, cold water showers, and is right on the Gulf beach. Very clean and nice. On way down to National Seashore (only 1 road leading off of SPID freeway) has about 8 miles of Gulf beach where you can drive on beach parallel to road and can camp on beach for free and build beach fires. Entire Gulf beach has good surfing, 2' to 10' waves depending on wind. Lots of birds, coyotes, and some rattle snakes. Great kayaking all around Corpus Christi...see my web page for 18 pictures of places to paddle: http://home.earthlink.net/~johnsonkw/ Can rent only sit-on-tops at Franks Wind n Wave, 10721 SPID Dr, CC, TX 78350 361-937-9463 Dallas kayaking group recently had a "Surf-fest" at National Seashore for 3 days (about 12-15 kayakers).
