G'day All, personally I feel undressed in the water unless my paddle, and
everything else, is tethered. Lots of folks over here use a simple paddle
tether of one-eighth inch diameter shock cord [ without pre-formed coils ]
with olive cleats at each end. [ to attach to paddle and deck ]
This is light, strong, easily adjustable and removable. I have a
personal aversion to coiled paddle tethers which thump the deck/skirt every
stroke.

What's an 'olive cleat'?

Marvin asks what's an olive cleat.

Here's a picture... http://www.oceanplanet.com.au/home.html, under online
store, hardware bits and pieces, small fittings, "G".
An olive cleat is attached to one end of a length of 5-6 mm bungy cord,
allowing
the other end to be passed back through the olive cleat, adjusted to any
length,
and locked off securing the loop. Or a smaller loop suitable for attaching a
paddle leash to a deck or paddle can be formed in each end.
Handy little gadgets, I'd be amazed if they weren't available on your side
of Mare Pacifica.
