Hey all,

I searched through the archives but didn't find anything on this. As
my new Feathercraft has a sea sock, and doesn't have a knee tube, I
am thinking on getting a deck bag for the stuff I usually keep drybag
I usually keep in the cockpit and kneetubes. Anyone have a brand they
can recommend. I am looking for something that has a low profile that
won't interfere with compass reading, rolling, paddling etc. I know
that these seem like pretty basic requirements, but it seems that as
more companies start making "watersport" equipment, a lot more of it
is badly designed. Thanks!

This is an observation, not a recommendation, but the new Prijon catalog has an interesting multi-function (listening Ralph?)deckbag/drybag/paddlefloat that looks very interesting. Not big by deckbag standards, but it seems well thought out and not a bad little widget to have on the deck. Cost is (from memory, which isn't good) is somewhere in the $30s.

Pay attention on the quality! Please have a deep look, before you pay for
it.
Prijon isnīt well known for its heavy duty quality stuff. Everything has to
look great, and they pay lots on good marketing, but since Toni Prijon jun.
has taken the company from his dad, they optimized the profit margin. This
wasnīt beneficial for quality.

Maybe it is easier to find out, which company has made the equipment for
Prijon and to buy it then from this company. Prijons sprayskirts are made by
Langer, as I know - if nothing has changed.

An alternative might be Zoelzer. He is a specialist for all kinds of
waterproof equipment. But so long, I donīt know if there is some treader
selling his stuff in the US.

just a non-committal opinion
safe paddling
Jochen

Hi Patrick

About 2 months ago I started using a touring deck bag by SealLine. Of all
the deck bags I've used, I like this the best. I got it at REI for $55.00.
It can be seen at Outdoorplay.com in accessories/outfitting and cost $68.00.
 Worth a look anyway.

There's a Voyageur deck bag I saw for the first time last weekend at the Toronto
Mountain Equipment Coop store. It looks very much like the Cascade Designs
deck bag, but has an honest-to-goodness waterproof zipper on it. It's made of heavy
fabric, welded construction etc. Kinda pricy (C$130 IIRC). Not to be confused with
the Voyageur bag that has a diagonal zipper on it.

Hi all,
A quite recent issue of Seakayaker (oktober 2000) contained a test
of 4 deck bags, including the one that doubles as a paddle float, that
is the muliti-float by WildwasserSport.

Greetings,

Merijn
