Dear Dave and all, I too have heard strange 'resonances' conveyed through the hull of a kayak. My brother's three-hole nylon-covered Kodiak baidarka emitted 'pops' and 'clicks' as a freighter passed us by on the Columbia River. It was not the thrumming of the engines. . . . . just a wierd clicking. I've also noticed this when rolling near motorboats-- especially when wearing a neoprene hood. (Say. . . .is it just me, or do neoprene hoods hamper one's ability to hear conversation while at the same time greatly ACCENTUATING the roar of jet airliners?) Anyhow, I'm certain this is just a 'Columbia River thing', as Dave likely has also come to realize.
