Dave, I too had a strange vibration and low buzzing noise when I first bought my CD Gulfstream and had had i5t for about 2 weeks.. At first it appeared to be related to whether or not the skeg was down and I was attributing it to the skeg vibrating from quartering seas while it was deployed. The previous owner of the boat assured me that he had never had a vibration or grumbling sound from the boat. It took a while, but I finally solved the mystery. I had been keeping my paddling jacket in the day hatch and putting a water bottle in on top of it. The weather had warmed up and I stopped carrying the paddling jacket. This left my RIBBED water bottle free to roll around with the swells and the ribs were producing the vibration and noise. As soon as I changed water bottle, the vibration and noise left. Steve ----- Original Message ----- From: Dave Kruger To: Paddlewise Sent: September 09, 2001 8:19 AM Subject: [Paddlewise] Vibrating Double A week ago my sweetie and I were out paddling) on the river in our wooden double sea kayak (a Pygmy Osprey). Every now and then, it would vibrate, and make a deep buzzing sound. (No, I am not making this up.) After the fourth or fifth vibration, we noticed it coincided with the horn blast from an upriver ship, no doubt bleating in the thin fog. The ship was out of sight behind some islands, and probably at least two miles away. The horn blast was actually quite faint. My conclusion was that the large open space connecting the two cockpits was resonating in sympathy with the note from the ship's horn. I guess I should not be surprised at this, although at first it was very eerie. Has anyone else had this happen to them? -- Dave Kruger Astoria, OR *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
