Sitka offers great kayaking...put in at the Centienial building (an outfitter rents boats there...just look for the blue bus) then paddle toward the light house and paddle amid the islands. watch for whales in Silver Bay to the west. Glacier bay is spectacular in scenery. You should see a lot of seals with their new born pups near the Glaciers. The railroad trip in skagway is fun, not a lot of variety in paddlling though. May is also a good time for whale spotting.
