On this trip I can only say I am exceedingly envious. Rev. Bob's
information is right on (of course he's lived there for how long...),
especially on rain. I've used Juneau as my jumping off spot and several
times in May. Always camping trips. Coldest was maybe 30 overnight; most
nights in the low 40s, some days even to upper 60s. Most days in the 50s.
Raingear absolutely. Anybody mention rubber boots? The inexpensive ones
from outdoor shops that come up to your knees, and if you wear them under
goretex pants with a snap or other tightener around your ankles and OVER the
boots you'll keep your tootsies warmer than any other method, also the best
footwear for Alaska hiking -most places gonna be very wet underfoot. Also
good when you step out of a kayak in ankle deep 34 degree water...

>The itinerary is: Vancouver, Metlakatla, Juneau, Skaway, Glacier Bay,
Sitka,
>Ketchikan, Vancouver.

If memory serves me right (I never arrived by tour boat), there are at least
two outfitters within walking distance of the dock. Hang a right along the
main street - better yet spot them from on deck as you come in but probably
you'll want to contact them before you go into port. Every direction from
Juneau has good paddling. If you had time, you could paddle from Juneau to
Skagway to re-meet the ship. Don't miss Glacier Bay from whatever craft!
...
May is also a good time for whale spotting. Many of the whales have returned
from hawaii and are feeding for thr first time in months...

We expect a full report with photos!

Have a great time.
