Your best bet is Everglades City just east of Naples. This is where the rich
and famous DO NOT gather. Motels, hotels, bed & breakfast and available as
are several kayak/canoe rental facilities. You can kayak in the ocean, among
14,000 mangrove islands offshore, and into the interior up several creeks,
canals, and rivers.

Another place is Flamingo, as far south on the Florida mainland as you can go
in the Everglades National Park. Facilities are available but somewhat
limited. Kayaking opportunities abound. Facilities are also available just
off the Park in Florida City and Holmstead (just to the east of the Park
entrance). Rentals in the Park at Flamingo are available.

I don't have the specific web cite handy, but go to google.com and key in
"Everglades National Park". Their web cite will give you a world of info.

Happy Kayaking!
Warren in Venice, FL

Excellent trip reports! The canal full of gators mentioned in my earlier
post was the canal surrounding the Loxahatchee canoe trail. It is
sometimes impassable so paddling the canal is the only option.

Where are you located? I am almost exactly due east of the reserve on
the Intracoastal.
