I want to hear more about the inanimate objects having intimate relations with other inanimate objects as well as people. That sounds like a good Sunday topic. And I may learn why I divorced my first husband, USN. From: <jolie_at_rockisland.com> > Reality check, John. I think the objections were more to do with your > attitude than your words. I musta missed something because I didn't read an "attitude" in John's message about getting the nomenclature correct... which John is in a pretty good position to discuss. John's been around and designing boats for decades. His input on boat design is most appreciated here. He's also a great puller of legs... something for which us native Texans have a great appreciation :-) Cheers, Jackie *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s). Thanks, Frank. You said in a far better way what I wanted to say. > PS - Now if I can just get back to scanning those Manatee photos... Oh, cool! Did you get to paddle with Manatees?! Will we get to see those photos??? Thank you, Frank! That was worth the wait. Your thoughts about swimming with them to encourage conservation, or not swimming with them to encourage conservation, brings to mind the ongoing debate in the PNW around orca watching. I love reading posts and associated sites from the Florida paddlers! It all looks so exotic and *warm* to me here on the chilly Vancouver Island winter coast. G'Day Frank, The accessibility of wildlife to US paddlers is enviable. Thanks for sharing it with us. You have a beautiful and fascinating country. living in a land where many people call a kayak a canoe and a canoe a canadian or sometimes even a canadian kayak, I can only appreciate the effort it takes to try to set the nomenclature right as possible. (Anders kon ik dit ook net zo goed in het Nederlands schrijven?) Cheer up! (Maybe Dr. Peregrine Inverbon has to pay a visit to Piety Hill?) I too have been yerning for an anthropologically juxtaposed view of the origins of nautical nomenclature, and it's subsequent derision. Dr. Peregrine's input is sorely needed here. I worked on submarines as well. All I learned, that relates to this topic, is that Navy protocol calls for all submarine crew members to sleep with a bucket on their heads, and their backs to the wall. Therefore that of which you speak would be largely unseen, unknown, yet a force not to be reckoned with. Then again, your divorce may have been just such a "reckoning". But what do I know.
