Having inspired a fellow Paddlewiser to poetry, I guess I shouldn't
complain. But a LIMERICK??? Given the Greek origins of baklava, I
would have hoped for something a little more, well, epic:

"Sing O Muse, of the clever Odysseus, who with his bold band of paddlers
ventured o'er the wine-dark sea, stole the baklava of Hyperion, was
tempted by the honeyed words of Calypso, blinded the cyclops Polyphumus
with roasted pistachios, had his men turned to swine by the baklava of
the witch Circe, escaped the isle of the Baklava-Eaters, and who alone
among men heard the call of the Sirens and lived, by stopping the ears
of his crew with filo. After these and other adventures he returned to
his home in Ithaca, where he revealed himself and vanquished the
presumptuous suitors, by alone knowing the secret family baklava recipe
of his faithful wife Penelope."
Now THAT'S poetry. Apologies to Homer.

A hirsute old paddler just cheered,
"It has come to pass as I feared.
Two guillemots and then
Some ducks and marsh hen
Nosh the baklava in my beard."

Steve (apologies to Edward Lear)

Wow.

Sounds a lot like Mick Dundee "That's not poetry. THIS is poetry." :)

One takes one's muse where one finds her. Yours is Greek, mine is
Irish/English.
