Chuck writes: The pattern continues to define itself. Those who die in the cold-water paddling season are generally outside the "paddling community". They are beyond the reach of clubs, paddling magazines, and the many sites on-line that so diligently provide readers with good advice. In the PNW the cold water paddling season starts midnight January 1st and officially ends on midnight December 31st. Options to renew are immediately extended without further notice. Water temps are typically high 40's to low 50's. If one has a brain, immersion apparel is mandatory, regardless of summer's balmy skies. One could only wish to see all of our increasingly popular sport's adherents wearing the right things, carrying the right gear, but Chuck is correct: There are some beyond the reach of clubs, mags, etc. People of reason, such as Chuck, are vital for paddling discussion. It matters little if it's on Paddlewise or a put in, keep contributing and turn on a few more people.
