I just ran into 3M 5200 for the first time a few weeks ago. The rear
foam bulkhead was sealed in place with it. I had to use a dremel tool
with a reinforced cut-off wheel to remove it from the kayak.

My final plans for the day hatch is a VCP 7.5" hatch. I made the choice
between the VCP and Kajak Sports hatches based on size. The day
compartment is 11" bulkhead to bulkhead. The bulkheads are 6mm Okoume
mahogany plywood fiberglassed on both sides. The bulkhead will be cut
0.25" short of the hull and that space between the edge of the bulkheads
and the hull will be filled in with 3M 5200. No hard point between the
hull and the bulkhead. The bulkhead will also be fiberglassed to the
hull. The theory is that the stresses on the hull will all go to the
fiberglass tape over a wide area and not on the small, 6mm, area at the
intersection of the bulkhead and the hull. This should, in theory, keep
the gel coat from cracking around the bulkheads. I am going to install
it so that the top of the hatch is flush with the deck. It is going to
be more work but it will keep it out of the way for stuff like paddle
float rescues. The hatch will also be supported by the bulkheads. I
don't want to cause leaks because I sat on the hatch, put a knee or
whatever on it. I got the idea from the following web site:

| Used 3M 5200 to attach to the kayaks. Messy stuff to work with (use gloves

| Completely waterproof.

| I have used primarily the approx. 9" one. It has worked well. You
might want
| the approx. 6" one for the day hatch.
