Hi Kirk,
What is the lady's e-mail that's researching sponsons? Are we going
to hear what her conclusions are?

I believe kayaks are kayaks, and canoes are canoes, but trying to
make them into zodiacs is insane? Would they put sponsons on a river
kayak? Rolling is part of the game, and it's a safety issue, too! We
are safe because we can roll the boats- can't do it with sponsons!

If a paddler wants a wide ("won't ever capsize") boat; terrific! Go buy
a nice "Recreational Kayak". Sponsons? Get out'a here!

Chuck,
I have a very reliable roll, have practiced paddlefloat self rescues, but
still carry sponsons as a back up to a back up. Have you tried them? My
boat (Mariner Express) is pre-rigged for sponsons. I can attach them,
inflate them and re enter in about 3 minutes and could probably beat that
time if I practiced more. The main advantage is the ease of pumping out in
choppy water with the sponsons attached. You can then relax after a capsize
and gather your wits.

Why belittle them? They are just another safety tool.

Jerry
