Thomas, your wife is right [ naturally !] . Buying a ready made first aid kit is fine if money is not a problem. But with a little research, ie, reading what is in the kits, you can make your own up. And at the same time, you can bias the kit to your particular activity. The items your wife mentions are 'universal'. They are appropriate for all activities; if I was hiking for ten days I would add stuff relevant to that activity; if I am seakayaking I bias my kit for that activity. Without buying an enormously expensive and heavy kit, there is no one kit which covers all scenarios. And of course, the medications you buy in that expensive kit will date just as fast as the stuff you buy separately. My two cents worth..
