As the result of a highway incident yesterday, my number one boat, a Seda
Swift (kevlar) got severely crunched . The deck adjacent to the rear hatch
got squeezed, compressed, with such force that deck is cracked/split away from
the hull on both sides next to where the deck and the hull join. The bow also
got crunched so severely that it can be moved sideways slightly.

The decision whether to repair or replace is hanging on the question of
whether or not it can be repaired. And that question in turn hangs on whether
there is anyone or any business, preferably on the west coast, that does that
type of specialized repair work.

Would any paddlewisers have a recommendation or two about who might do that
kind of work, or where I might turn?

Like......... HELP !!

Dave,
even here in Anchorage, there is at least one business that does/would do
that kind of repair.

I strongly recommend that you flip through the yellow pages under either
marine or boat repair - anyplace that repairs large vessels can also repair
kayaks....the only caveat being do you trust their craftsmanship....

Worst case scenario, box 'er up and ship back to Seda, who I am sure would
be glad to repair her for a modest price....

You didn’t say where you live but if it is anywhere in the Puget Sound area
I’d highly recommend Tom Wilkinson of Wilkinson Boat (Seaworthy Kayaks) for
kayak repairs. Not only is he very good compared to most fiberglass repair
places he is far more reasonably priced. His shop/home is on Camano Island.
His phone number is (360) 387-8420. He once fixed a kayak for me that was
far more damaged than yours and did a very good job of it too. When I still
had a workshop we used to be able to fix the smaller breaks, cracks and
chips here, but even then, if there was major structural damage needing
repair I’d always send it up to Tom.
