A little over seven years ago I became aware that I was going to be laid off and had over a six month notice so I started job searching. I had lived and worked in the San Francisco bay area for most of my life and was getting pretty tired of the rat race. I knew someone that was living in Ithaca (a romantic interest) so I visited the area, liked it, and started looking for work here. I found a possible position, interviewed for it and was offered the job. I then had to decide whether I wanted to move across country and take on a job that paid $15K a year less than what I had been making. I made the move. Within a couple of months the romance fizzled and after a year I got laid off from that job as well (the parent company closed the local office). But I really liked the area and had started kayaking and doing a lot of flyfishing and really decided that where and how I lived was a higher priority than where I was working or how much money I was making. I stayed. A short time after the fizzled romance I had also met the woman to whom I'm married and now work at what I think is the best job I've ever had. I hope your choice produces a similar result. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
