[Paddlewise] trip - risk assessment

I am doing a presentation for our local paddling club on trip organization.
I would like to do a section on risk assessment - but can't find too much
material on it.  I would like to set up a chart or matrix to make it easier
for beginner paddlers to understand.  

Has anybody done something like this in their local clubs?  Or know any net
references that I can follow up on?
