Took an intentional swim at the end of a paddle yesterday in 45 degree water. I was wearing wool socks, neoprene booties, gloves, and an NRS farmer john with a thin fleece top and a semi dry top over that. After 45 seconds or so my relatively unprotected arms felt like they were being crushed by the cold. Shortly after that I decided to swim to shore and get out. Amazing how well the neoprene protected my body and how greatly my unprotected arms suffered. I wonder if a 1 mm neoprene top would give me greater protection while still giving me the freedom of movement to be comfortable? One from NRS is $98! That is more than I paid for my wetsuit. Any ideas?
