Perception used to make an actual "Sea Lion". I understand this was a longer fiberglass boat. I was also confused on this since my 2002 Perception Eclipse says "Sea Lion" on the front and a little "Eclipse" under it. My Eclipse is the 17' 2" boat that John mentioned. I've owned two of them, of circa 1995 vintage. Since no one else has ever heard of a 19+' glass Perception Sea Lion, could you please share where your understanding comes from? > I was also confused on this since my 2002 Perception Eclipse says "Sea Lion" > on the front and a little "Eclipse" under it. Both the Shadow and Eclipse are considered to be developments of the original Sea Lion design. -- Steve Cramer Athens, GA *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s). My Eclipse is the 17' 2" boat that >John mentioned. The Sea Lion that I first paddled was about 6 years ago. It was a plastic version. I have also seen a Sea Lion S, a smaller fiberglass version (16'6", I think) about five years ago at a symposium. I know that the first year that the Eclipse came out it had "Sea Lion" as part of the logo but even though the Shadow was supposed to be a smaller version of the Eclipse it didn't include "Sea Lion" as part of the name. What I find interesting is that the original poster said that it was a Sea Lion by Perception. I don't recall exactly when the name change occurred but Perception was once called Aquaterra, and may have only been Perception for a year or so before the Sea Lion was replaced with the Eclipse. I check on the Sea Kayaker magazine boat reviews page and they reviewed an Sea Lion by Aquaterra in issue 45 (April 1995). Unfortunately, they only publish a small number of their reviews online and charge for back issues of those they didn't put on line. *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s). No, the Sea Lion really was 17' 2", not longer. Classicly in rotomolded plastic, and then later they made some in fiberglass starting around 1995, but using the same shape & size. As others have mentioned, the Eclipse is a slightly modified Sea Lion. The length didn't change. Like the others, I'm very very skeptical of a 19' Sea Lion. We still have 3 plastic Sea Lions dating from around 1993. Don Margiano wrote: >Perception used to make an actual "Sea Lion".
