I have a dream to do this one day. It is very far off, to be sure. But I
want to prepare for my dream, even if it will not take place for many years.

My wife and I are experienced sea kayakers.

I've been looking at websites, and can't seem to find one piece of crucial
info: How long a distance is it? What is the circumference?

At this stage, just playing with the idea, but I'll certainly have lots of
questions for you, particularly those in BC and those living in the Island...

And if you feel like commenting on the idea, or whatever, feel free.

Once Leon Somme gets back from his circumnavigation of Iceland with Chris
Duff and Shawna Franklin you might want to get in touch with him. I
believe he has circumnavigated Vancouver island and would be a good
resource and front what I've seen meeting him a couple of times would
likely be more than happy to share any information and tips.

I had a brief conversation with Leon on the Anglesey Sea Symposium (this May
before they left for Iceland) about his trip around Vancouver Island.
If I remember it right he said that the complete trip took him 28 days.

Joshua if you should get some usefull infos back channel I would be happy if
you could share them with me.

Hope my english is to understand

That's right, saw the article on TV the other night.

I bet he really doesn't have a clue to what he is getting into.

As for paddling around Vancouver Islnad, there have been so many people
doing it in the last few years one should put up street lights.

Kirby

I had the same dream scenario, but decided most of the inside was
dispensable, so I'm hoping to do just from Port Hardy around the
outside and back in to Anacortes, WA.

I was close to doing this a few years ago and did some planning, but
had to abort. Maybe next year...

One decent reference may be:
Exploring Vancouver Island's West Coast
 by Don Douglass, Reanne Hemingway-Douglass

I believe there is a companion volume for the inside.

These are written for cruising boats, so much of the emphasis on
quality of anchorage is irrelevant. There is still a lot of
description of the conditions on various routes that seems to be
useful, and the distances on the water between various stops are
listed, though a paddlers route will often be shorter.

Kirby's maps have better detail of points of interest.
