Yellowstone is spectacular--we did this paddle in canoes many years ago. 
Though I'm not sure what it will be like in late September, there's a 
lovely white pelican rookery at the end of the southeast arm. Looks like 
dragons flying from a distance.  You'll need a backcountry permit to camp. 
Whether you get it will depend in part on grizzly activity in the area. The 
water is very cold plus it often snows in September, so be prepared for 
winter paddling conditions.
