thanks for the tip, scott. I have one that's called Fat Boy's cockpit cover
or something. In fact a fellow paddler posted that it's available at Sierra
Trading Post for something like $25 instead of the usual $69 so we're all
probably talking about the same thing.

BTW, for summer paddling, Wyoming River Traders has a mini-cockpit cover that
keeps the sun off your legs but doesn't retain all the heat inside.

I've heard these referred to as mini-skirts.... I have two - the one from
Current Designs (I think) has a piece of wooden dowel inside the nylon to
provide a bulge/break for waves, while the other has a flat piece of some
sort of plastic slightly bent which creates a slight curve (increased
height) which is more effective deflecting waves from motor boats, etc..
I think the curved kind is from a Montreal company called Beluga. I bought
mine from Trailhead in Ottawa, although I don't see it listed in their
current offerings: www.trailhead.ca

I've ordered several times from Wyoming River Raiders and enjoyed doing
business with them. But I can no longer find them online. Anyone know
whether they've changed their name or gone out of business?

Shirley, I tried finding them too, but no luck... I wonder if a search of
telephone listings (yellow pages) might turn up something?

Make your own. It's about the easiest accessory to make. Get ripstop
waterproof nylon from your local fabric store. Get some medium weight
bungie cord from the hardware store.
Place the fabric over your cockpit. Tie the bungie around the coming. Fold
back the nylon and pin back the nylon. Remove sew, seam seal and voila a
cockpit cover.

I made 2 in about an hour and half. Remember, a sewing machine is just a
powertool with string.
