I got an email on Aug 18th from Wade at Voyageurs Adventures (the only kayak outfitter in that area) who said that the surface water temp was 75 degrees - according to his depth finder. It'll drop some but he said they've had a very warm summer. In terms of route direction, I'm not sure - we aren't planning to do the peninsula loop on our trip in late September. You might email Wade and ask about this. I've don't have any connections with his business except that he has been very good about responding to trip planning questions. As a 'local' he'd have the skinny on which direction to take.
