[Paddlewise] sun cover

I'm considering keeping my boat on the trailer this summer for ease of use 
- hopefully I'll paddle more that way!.  Wondering about a sun cover for 
it.  I'd hate to use one of those dreadfully ugly cheap blue or green 
plastic tarps but....will these protect my boat (plastic) from UV / heat 
damage?  How about 8 oz canvas - light colored?   Local home center has 
canvas drop cloths that are 4 x 15 - would need two to get the needed 
length but would be inexpensive.  I don't care if it stays dry - just have 
to keep the sun off.
