RE: recent posts about kayak carts - these are some of the best wheels I've 
found for making knock-down kayak carts (both in terms of size/type and 
price).  Of course, depends on surfaces encountered - deep, loose sugar 
sand would likely require something very wide.

Not sure on axles.  My very simplistic knock-down cart was created with PVC 
pipe/fittings and these wheels.  A 1/2" male threaded adapter fitting has 
an inside diameter exactly right for an aluminum rod that fits perfectly as 
an axle.  Mine is created in such a way that the load bears on the axle 
only immediately next to the wheel (the male fittings on either side are 
the only bearing points).  In this way I've had well over 100 lbs on the 
cart over some fairly rough ground without a problem - even with an 
aluminum rod for an axle.  To puncture-proof them you could always squirt 
in some of that nasty, messy no-flat goop.
