RE: recent posts about kayak carts - these are some of the best wheels I've found for making knock-down kayak carts (both in terms of size/type and price). Of course, depends on surfaces encountered - deep, loose sugar sand would likely require something very wide. http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?productId=200199624&storeId=6970&catalogId=4006970&storeId=6970&langId=-1&cmemid=EFP090501p01c01 K *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s). Not sure on axles. My very simplistic knock-down cart was created with PVC pipe/fittings and these wheels. A 1/2" male threaded adapter fitting has an inside diameter exactly right for an aluminum rod that fits perfectly as an axle. Mine is created in such a way that the load bears on the axle only immediately next to the wheel (the male fittings on either side are the only bearing points). In this way I've had well over 100 lbs on the cart over some fairly rough ground without a problem - even with an aluminum rod for an axle. To puncture-proof them you could always squirt in some of that nasty, messy no-flat goop.
