I believe that fairly reliable performance tests could be designed for different paddle designs used in different conditions, but I'm sure it would take some serious effort and a lot of time. Sounds like a good job for Consumers Union! Would they provide objective results without a paddler bias? That, it seems to me, poses the greatest problem with tests that use people to evaluate and measure performance.
