I am planning a solo trip in the near future, and i would like to take some
video. does anyone have any experience with waterproof solutions for a
digital camcorder with a remote control? or can you point me to some
information regarding this?
thanks

Marek Uliasz has some video clips on his website,
http://users.frii.com/uliasz/wayfarer/video.htm.
I believe he's currently a paddlewise member, hopefully he'll kick in
with some info on his setup.

I too would be interested in getting some on water video.

Kirk:
Thanks for the email. Mareks clips were very interesting. he has a link to
a page which tells of his video set up
http://users.frii.com/uliasz/wayfarer/notes_video.htm

I have looked at his setup, but think I want something a little more
sophisticated with a remote control and better image quality. Its so hard to
have your cake and eat it too!

Happy paddling

Bart

Start researching underwater housings for digital video cams. It used to
be that video housings were all $2000+. There are now some commercial
housings for some for the very small digital video cameras for less than
$600 (not including the camera obviously). Can't recall exactly where I
saw this - but it was during a search for a digital still housing. IR
remotes will function through the housing if needed (you'll need to fashion
a housing for the remote but that should be relatively easy).

One site that might get you started is:
http://www.backscatter.com/ click on the housing finder and look for one of
the many small video camera models.

There is also plenty of info on-line about building your own housings using
regular plumbing related parts (basically PVC sewer pipe with a glass port
on the end!).

I had the problem on a hot summerday. The camera was installed in the
usual way but afterwards it got flushed with cold seawater. There was no
waterdamage at all but dew on the housings optical glas in front of the
lense. The pictures simply got blurred and it was not because of water
on the outside. I had of course used anti-dew agent on the glas but
apparently not in a sufficient way.

My underwater still digital camera has built in holders for desiccant.
Underwater, it will fog without the desiccant. In my kayak, I've never
had a problem.

Best approach to avoid this is to turn on the A/C in the car and flush the case with its dry air before closing it.
