I just returned from a couple of days of intensive surfing and paddling south of Sydney and am in the market for a new helmet. Having to wear my heavy poly helmet for a couple of days was hell. Can anyone recommend a good brand of composite material (carbon/kevlar) helmet? Ones with the baseball cap-type peak particularly interests me to avoid being barbecued by the sun. Also is their any great advantage in having one that covers your ears? I found that it significantly reduced my ability to hear shouted warnings (we had some great kayak on kayak collisions). I figure a good blow on the side of the head is probably going to break your neck anyway. Be interested in any comments / suggestions. Richard.
