The other thing to consider is floatation. Most/all radios sink like a rock. If you are butterfingered like I am this is a consideration. I didn't want it tethered due to entanglement considerations. I found a neoprene case at West Marine. This didn't quite make it positive bouancy, but adding a small piece of floatation to the cord did the trip.
