I have a plastic Daggar. The plastic is splitting for about a foot
along the inside of the combing. Does anyone have any idea how to go
about repairing these problems.

Thanks in advance.

1. Kneel next to boat.
2. Clean off an area on the deck about 4" across.
3. Apply lips to the plastic.
4. Kiss your boat goodbye.

Sorry, couldn't resist. Some Dagger models can be plastic welded, if you
can find someone local to do it. Most likely, though, if it's cracking
like that the plastic is old and has gotten brittle. Even if you get it
fixed, it would be a good idea to stay off demanding water with it.

What model is it? How old? Does the color look faded?

Good luck.

A friend of mine had the same problem with his boat. He called Daggar and
they sent him a repair kit. Unfortunately the problem recurred, but it's
worth a shot to try and find the kit before you kiss your boat goodbye for
good.

here is the required tool:

http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?function=Search

if the link does not bring it up go to the harborfreight page and learch for
item number:

41592-OAKH

$40.00 seems reasonably priced, though it appears you need a source of
compressed air to operate it.

I'm not sure about the quality of this particular tool but it is the
same design of some of our older welding guns at our shop. They work
very well.

FWIW, a nice feature of this welding gun is that you can use any source
for air. We often use nitrogen for welding polypropylene and polyethelene.

Apparently you can buy a plastic welding rig for a reasonable price
at one of the US big box hardware/tool stores. Harbor Freight, I
believe.

Dear Jeff:

Plastic polyethylene boats can be repaired with a special plastic welding
gun one of the manufacturers is Leister. (www.leister.com) If you talk to
the local rep., You can find out who has this equipment and who could
repair your boat in your local area. Dagger may be able to supply you with
some strips of polyethylene in the right colour for use with the gun.
Cheers

Bart

Jeff,

You should be able to find a plastic fabrication company that is capable
of welding polyethylene.

We weld plastic everyday (in Toronto) and it's pretty straightforward
for someone with experience. I repaired a Riot last year for a customer.

Grant.
