If alex is correct about the BlueChart region for Baja (basically the whole of the west coast of NA from Seattle to Panama, with no higher resolution breakout for the Sea of Cortez), I would not expect much from it. I'd be surprised if there was anything like the detail on a typical 1:40,000 paper chart. Check the Garmin web site, after hitting the link for the unit you are considering, and it will lead you to what is available. For BlueCharts, I believe Garmin forces you to use MapSource to deal with them on your home workstation. I like MapSource; it is intuitive and flexible. Uploading and downloading info is easy[; the editing functions in MapSource give you all the tools needed to carve out routes and transfer them to the GPS; and, it is easy to make a display of a track uploaded from the GPS. With a 76CX, I think the new G2 BlueCharts for the US will all fit on a 1 GB memory card, but you may have to use a second card for the Mexico stuff.
