Hi Turner and Cheri,

Yep, it is mid-summer, but we have had weeks of cold fronts, which has made
the paddling worth doing. Nothing more boring than flat-water sea kayaking!

Hard to believe that Coastbusters was nearly a year ago, people here are
still raving about the rolling sessions you folk ran.

I was in Wellington last month running a course and saw three skin-on-frame
kayaks, propelled by GP's, so it is catching.

Hope all is well, and I look forward to getting up your wat sometime.

Cheers

JKA

My 76Cx arrived yesterday and so far I've been pleased with it. I
can tell right away though that I'm going ot have to buy some more
detailed base maps.

This morning we went out and found my first geocache. My 3 yr old
loved "searching for treasure".

After my first find I wondered if there were many geocaches out there
that were only accessible by water. I have already though of several
places I would like to place a cache that would be an easy paddle,
but would pretty much only be accessible from the water.

I did a bit we searching for geocaching by kayak but didn't find
much. Given the interest by paddlers for GPS units it would seem to
be a fun diversion. It could be called Paddlecaching.

There are a fair number of "paddlecaches" (I like that term - nice!) in the
Mid-coastal Maine area - I have snagged a three part multi-cache that takes you
to separate islands in Pushaw Lake (just north of Bangor). There's also one
parked on an Island in the middle of the Penobscot River in the Bangor area;
plus one on an island in Brewer Lake. And if it's salt water you're looking
for, I've had my eye on a number of caches located on islands off of Deer Island
(Stonington area) which is probably one of the prettiest places to paddle on
the East Coast.

I don't know of an easy way to locate caches that are only boat accessible
other than exhaustively reading the cache database. I believe if you are a
paying member, you have access to some other mapping and database query tools that
would make searching for paddlecaches easier. Probably there is somebody out
there that has more details on how this is done.

I created one years ago, but it disappeared shortly after. Either a critter
dragged it away, someone didn't understand the concept, the weather got the
better of it or someone who disapproves of geocaching removed it (yes, the
latter exist). Possibly some other reason.

I've seen a few others listed since, but haven't looked up any in quite a while.
