I'll be walking across the Talamanca range in Costa Rica next month. The trip starts in a Cabecar indian village on the Pacific slope, crosses the divide into La Amistad National Park, up and down the Caribbean watershed, through cloud, montane and lowland forest and out of the forest (say to speak) a few miles from the Caribbean. There is only a general route, no specific trails as the jungle claims those as fast as they are cut. Our guide, a Cabecar native has put this trip on for years for the local conservation society. We will probably take 8-10 days to do the trip. We have lots of trips planned for the Olympic Coast, Skookumchuck and our local rivers and surf breaks. Then, in September we paddle the Grand Canyon, woo hoo.
