I've got a double SOT and was curious about scuba diving from it, anyone done this? Cannot find instruction in the NYC area so I'm looking for pointers. -Joe G ************************************** AOL now offers free email to everyone. Hi Joe, I have never scuba dived from a kayak, but I plan to try it one of these days (probably after I retire!) Anyway, I purchased a terrific book from Sports Chalet in Southern California about 3 years ago all about kayak diving. The book provides excellent instruction, along with lots of photographs and diagrams. The name of the book is "Kayak Diving, The Complete Guide To Outfitting and Using Your Dive Kayak," and the author is Mark Theobald. I don't know if it is still in print, but you may find it at Amazon.Com. Good luck. I've done it a few times, to go out to the Kelp beds in Southern California. A few hints - Put your wetsuit halfway on before you paddle out. Finish before getting in the water. Leash EVERYTHING. I used a couple lengths of rope, with clips on both ends. Organize your gear such that it's in the order you'll want to put it on. I put on fins first, then my BC, then weight belt, then mask I use a small dive flag. Mostly so people don't think the kayak is abandoned. I take a small anchor, but hand place on my descent so that I can minimize impact and make sure it's secure.
