Editors Note: On July 29, Tribune reporter Brian Milne, Tribune
photographer Joe Johnston and Kayak Horizons guide Beau Clyburn set off
on a six-day, 98-mile kayak trip down the coast of San Luis Obispo
County. Here is Milnes account of the first day, from Ragged Point to
San Simeon State Park.
Includes video along with blog.

This would be an interesting trip but I don't think I'd have chosen the
kayaks they chose to paddle it. Looking at the specs they seem more like
fishing kayaks than ocean touring kayaks (or surfing kayaks - which is what
they did a lot of but not on purpose). Nor do I think I'd have taken a Leica
camara along!

I'd be interested in what some of the s. calif contingent has to say about
this trip.

GP "testing" (seen briefly at the end of the Day 3 clip) seems not to have
been sufficiently convincing to cause more extensive use. I wonder why that
was ... awkward sit-on-top paddling position perhaps?

This is last minute, but...
Our northern California sea kayaking club, Explore
North Coast, has rented Camp #3 at the Mendocino
Woodlands (www.mendocinowoodlands.org), and we find
ourselves with quite a few beds left (4 beds per
tent-cabin). If you're in the area, and want to come
paddling and camping with us, then please do! Use
their website to find directions, then ask for
Georgianna when you arrive at Camp #3. It's only $100
bucks for the whole 5 nights -- Thursday afternoon,
August 16 through Tuesday morning, the 21st. Ya'll Come!
