Isn't this the same as saying that one can "never" be properly prepared
for a trip?

 >>And you have to stay alert and within your abilities. If the weather
conditions are not right, stay put in camp. As Clint Eastwood said, "A
man's gotta know his limitations".

I couldn't agree more! It's just too bad that so many people seemed to
be focused on the first part to the detriment of the second part.

No. It says there is always something more. It does not say you have to
do it. It might suggest a person look carefully at how much he/she has
done to prepare for a trip and decide, consciously, if it is "enough."

The guys who did the speed record around Vancouver Island took some
calculated risks. Risks I would not take, even if I were as prepared as
they were.

It is all about the level of risk you regard as acceptable. No such thing
as zero risk.

Well there's no kayak anywhere in sight, but I saw this video right after
reading Dave's email and couldn't help but think that perhaps we're not the
only species who sometimes engages in faulty risk assessment. For your
enjoyment...

LOL... I laughed out loud at this video. I wonder if, since the tigers were
both cubs, the monkey is also young and they play like that regularly. No
one seemed very serious about it. Tiger by the tail, literally.
