If it's stolen then he took the rack and all. I'm forwarding this to Matt but I think it's probably just a very good deal. There have been no Anas Acutas ever reported stolen to me. However, the last two boats stolen were in this month and both were stolen in Oregon. One was in Corvallis and one in Portland. Considering the price and the stolen activity in OR lately I'd be real careful about this one and would consider going to the police and asking if it might have been reported stolen if you have the slightest reason to be suspicious while talking to the seller. Not all stolen kayaks get reported to me. I'd be surprised if even half were. Also, if the seller has an Eskimo replica kayak around or a green Current Designs Squall (or he recently advertised either on craigslist) you can be pretty sure the Anas is hot too. Owner is from the UK, moved back; her girlfriend is selling the boat along with other household items. Owner was upset to have to sell it, loved the kayak. The boat was new 10 years ago, $3,500.00 and still in good shape, hatches deteriorating. Someone is looking at it tonight, if not sold, I'm next in line. Keeping my fingers crossed. It's a niche boat, so maybe I'll get lucky and fill my niche. I was going to make a chine boat one day with skeg strickly for extreme storm work, not touring; the Anas at that price, plus my hectic double work life and health and limited budget post-huse renovations, would be a perfect solution. Even my wife says I dserve another kayak. :-) With my Nordkapp up "on the hoist" I'd actually have another boat worthwhile paddling that wasn't below my standards too much. I e-mailed the seller - waiting to hear back; subject to verification of ownership, I want it. 50th birthaday next month - time for another boat. May need someone's help on the list to pick it up for me depending on avaliability. We all know what *my* wife thinks > about getting another kayak. > > Craig Jungers > Fingers crossed for Doug in ... > Moses Lake, WA Well, the authorized seller followed Craiglist protocol and showed the Anas in order of inquiry. The seller phoned me just before the fist buyer was to arrive, which was really kind of her. I certainly would have not pursued a sale if I'd felt suspicious. As it turned out the kayak must have sold as there was no more contact. I would have driven down this weekend to investigate and pick it up, and scouted out Fort Canby to assess the C/River Bar. Just as well as I didn't get the cute Acuta; I'll just have to build, finally, my own chine-hulled kayak. That way, I keep the weight down (over an alternative F/G Anas Acuta), get the anthropomorphic more attuned, and can wrap the sucker in epoxy and carbon/glass combo's. A S&G is less S&M than strip built, fits in better with available time frames, and gets me on the water for less. Well, less without the Kari-Tec Hydro skeg my wife says I can order for it for my 50th birthday in Feb. I'm also ordering a Gath black visored helmet to go with my black drysuit, so you can guess what colour the S&G will be: Doug goes Goth at 50. So, hopefully over the next year, you might see a dark, diaphanous Igdlorssuit-like silhouette emerging from the shadowy fog shrouded edges of Vancouver Island's coastal haunts if your out on the water. Apparently, my wife wants the cherry bedroom furniture I started 10 years ago finished first. Not a bad deal, really. A Nordkapp rebuild/remake would be over-the-top for me at this point in my life - and life does melt away quickly into the sunset, though there's always mothershipping to avail those golden years. :-) Doug Lloyd *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s). But I can say that I wish I were 50 again!!! Black seems to be the "in color" lately, what with Dubside getting that nice black Ice Kapp and all. Just remember that the 1970s fiberglass sportfishers, express cruisers, and trawlers should be around forever. You have lots of time. There's something to be said for coming "home" to a warm cabin, a hot cup of coffee, and a warm bunk you don't have to hold down with rocks. I've been searching out articles on the web about the abandoned outports of Newfoundland with an eye towards trailering the mutha-ship out there and poking around a bit. I'm very interested in the aura of abandoned villages and love to visit and let the "what must life have been like" thoughts wash over me. I've glimpsed them from passing ships in years past but I think that paddling around their harbors - many of them very well protected - would be a real blast. Rocks galore washed by the Atlantic swell. We could make a muthership parade from here to there next summer if you act now. :P Craig Jungers very slowly warming up in... Craig and All, The color black doesn't work so well down here in Southern California. It melts! Maybe that's why we haven't been graced with the presence of people like Dubside and Freya. After having seen pictures of Freya's, I asked him to stain this one black too. Via backchannel, I'd had a heads-up it was a legit deal - but alas, it sold. I did see a good deal at the kayak store today for a new Wilderness Tempest 165 in yellow plastic for just over $900.00 which is a good deal around these parts; I mused over the possibilities, came close (I just spent $30,000.00 on house renos, so am looking at a budget-minded kayak right now), but the uneven hull just made me nauseous - not that a hull would stay pristine very long with me). Instead, I picked up the new DVD, "Pacific Horizons" to wet my appetite, unsatisfied with Mark's Californian appetizers. :-) Hey Mark - these guys are in their twenties, okay, inspiration for us 50 plussers. :-) http://www.pacifichorizonsfilm.blogspot.com/ No affiliation. My yard is already filling up with battered old yaks, abused, forlorn, silently suggesting better days gone by. I still think my next boat might best be a home made one, if only I would spend some time at home and not renovating. :-) A 30 pound black, infusion-resin Ice Kapp might be the coolest thing on the planet, or even a Ross Leidy inspired stripper or an even more practical Point Bennett reproduction, but fulfillment for me will probably only come with something custom made by self that's different from the status qou or consumer-available. In the mean time, I'm adding a shower to the down-stairs laundry room (yes, I renovate until 1:00 am many evenings), revamping the walls with a wire-shelf kayak-gear storage and drying rack system, in preparation for resuming my storm-paddling adventures. I'm hoping my biometrics finger-print dead-bolt will still work with soggy kayaker's hands. Well, I'm weird that way - I like things set up at the house just a certain way and have my kayaks solidly outfitted before I go out and get hammered by the best the west coast can dish out, like this week. Yeah, a good storm boat would be advantageous right now, but the wave supply is endless out here. Even I got a little envious of that Ana Acuta ad. If I could add a new boat right now, I'd want something like that with a lot of rocker to play in the surf. So what the big boy equivalent of a Anas Acuta? I need something that can handle 1/8th of a ton and size 13 feet! The "Pacific Horizons" trailer looks like a lot of fun and I'll admit watching "This is the Sea" almost makes me cry. Too much fun on the water. I try not to dwell on regret, but sometimes I wish I'd found my way onto a kayak in my younger days. To think I could have been having all the fun I've had over the last few years spread out over the last thirty! Oh what stories I might have to tell. I just hope people enjoy my videos a quarter as much as I enjoy watching and making them. I just try to look forward to more kayaking fun in the future. I think the friends I kayak with and I always continue to realize how lucky we are to be involved with the ocean. See the following for the "big boy equivalent of an Anas Acuta." I've paddled it, and it's not really like the Anas - but then, I'm not really in the size range that boat is meant to fit.http://www.atlantickayaktours.com/pages/retail/boats/vcp/Q-Boat.shtml Joan ----- Original Message -----From: Mark Sanders Date: Thursday, February 7, 2008 11:37 pmSubject: RE: [Paddlewise] Anas Acuta on Craigs ListTo: Doug Lloyd , Paddlewise > Even I got a little envious of that Ana Acuta ad. Thanks Joan - you beat me to the punch, though I don't know much about the Q-boat personally. BTW, I phoned back the kayak store, as yesterday, when I looked at the Tempest 165, the price tag seemed too good to be true - it was. The rain had dampened the ink. The price was $1900.00 regularly, marked down to $14000.00 or so, not $900.00. Saddnened, even if I wasn't sure about the kayak, I was cruising "Usedvictoria.com" later today and found Doug Alderson's original homebuilt/designed plywood S&G going for $500.00. I paddled the west coast for a few years with Doug paddling in this boat so I know the boat is sound, if not a bit heavy. I'll test paddle it next Saturday and probably buy it; it'll get me on the water and be a good boat for one of my teens when they grow out of their sit on tops. It has a skeg and center board, so should be fun compared to my Nordkapp for sailing with a Spiritsail. As for us "over 50" paddlers that took up kayaking later in life, it is too bad though never too late. For those of us over 50 who have been paddling over the last 30 years or more, the only sad thing is the nostalgic memories that taunt us of days gone by when we truly felt invincible in our kayaks -- and somehow survived that notion, the later being a good thing I guess. I was looking forward to the 45 year mark - still lots of stamina and strength, but lots more wisdom and sea savvy combined. Poor health robbed me of a few of those high-output years, but there are still good days to come. See the following for the "big boy equivalent of an Anas Acuta." I've paddled it, and it's not really like the Anas - but then, I'm not really in the size range that boat is meant to fit. http://www.atlantickayaktours.com/pages/retail/boats/vcp/Q-Boat.shtml Joan *************************************************************************** PaddleWise Paddling Mailing List - Any opinions or suggestions expressed here are solely those of the writer(s).
