I don't have pictures but years ago I stored WW kayaks on the wall of the garage. Two Big nails into the studs for either end. Then a long strip of lawn chair plastic webbing (your choide of pattern) with an eyelet punched into each end. Eyelets go over nails, On one end, both eyelets for that ribbon. Slide nose of kayak into the loop, pick up the end of the ribbon for the other side, wrap over that kayak end, hang on its nail. Boat stays sideways nicely and out of the way (to the depth of the boat). Removal is easy -- hold the end of the boat and slide it out of its loop.

I have a shop with a lot of vertical clearance that will easily allow me to
suspend kayaks vertically. I've been somewhat reluctant to do this because
I'm not sure of the stresses. I'm pretty sure that just hanging them from
their sterns or bows will not work very well so I've considered a "bow rest"
situation but haven't actually come up with a suitable design that doesn't
require a separate "shelf" for each kayak.

Maybe I have too many kayaks........ nahhhhhhhh.

-- I may have misdescribed that a little: The webbing was not looped around the kayak at the ends, but a foot or three in, where the chines were relatively flat. So the webbing won't slide off the end of the boat, and I think it would have been a stronger aspect of the boat. Being against a wall would help keep the boat from flexing in the wrong directions, too...

Paddlers -
For years i stored three touring kayaks in commercialy made and available nylon strap designed to store kayaks. i used a "hook bolt" placed into a verticle stud in the garage wall for each strap. Measure and measure again so the straps hang at an appropriate distance between each other to hold your kayaks. My kayaks were of three different lengths. [Now measure again].
i purchased my straps from a local kayak outfitter/dealer.
Wall attachement was secure and works well.

Here you go Steve. Pictures from my 2007 St. Patty's day party.

I usually have three 18 foot kayaks on my condo wall. I also have one
kayak hanging in my garage and one white water boat on loan to my son
who is in Colorado... kayaking the Peuter.

It's easy to do... just go to the hardware store, buy some eye-anchers,
screw into the studs. I then went to West marine and bought some
hardware: pulleys and stainless steel clips, so I could use them in
other nautical pursuits. They come in handy. The stainless is a bit
overkill for the job of hanging on the wall. And, you don't really need
the pulleys.

My kayaks rest on braces and are secured by halyard line I can use
elsewhere. If the braces ever give way, the halyard line is anchored
sound enough so the kayak remains suspended with no threat of falling.
