Hi paddlewisers, I don't know if this is a verboten commercial post or not, but let's see what happens. One of my steady paddling partners, Jeanette, is an artist. In the past she painted landscapes and still lifes and had some galleries in the North East that sold her work. Then she moved to Florida and her landscapes started being painted from the cockpit of a kayak. Well not painted really, she takes a photograph and paints from that. Then some paddlers started showing up in her paintings and some wildlife. Last week she finished a 42 x 33 painting of a green sea turtle and sent me a gpg of it. I liked her landscapes, but I saw this and thought it was a painting with a mission. You can see it here: http://www.jchupackart.com/Galleries/Fauna/Default.aspx Anyway, I'm looking for ideas for helping her find new outlets for her paintings. The same old galleries are not into the paddling paintings, and I think this sea turtle could be the start of a new direction for her, if she can figure out how to sell this type of painting. I thought since we paddlers are so involved with the sea, there was a good chance one of us might know someone who would be interested. If you know someone or some organization she should contact I'd be grateful for that information. Back channel might be best. Thanks for the help. Carey, I know from nothing about art; but I know what I like. And Jeanette clearly has a clue. I would think there would be a lot of galleries in the keys or even the south Miami area that would be interested in carrying her work. I'd buy it myself... and if it ever shows up in my favorite gallery (Goodwill) I certainly will pick it up. :) Craig Jungers Moses Lake, WA On Mon, Sep 8, 2008 at 5:54 PM, Carey Parks <carey_at_jimparksfamily.com>wrote: > Hi paddlewisers, > > I don't know if this is a verboten commercial post or not, but let's see > what happens. > > One of my steady paddling partners, Jeanette, is an artist. Yeah Jim, I know. There's something about this painting that makes me want to help find it it's rightful home. Hopefully in some public place where lots of people can enjoy it. Thanks for the comment, I'll tell Jeanette. -----Original Message----- From: James Farrelly [mailto:JFarrelly5_at_comcast.net] Sent: Monday, September 08, 2008 10:28 PM To: Craig Jungers Cc: Carey Parks; Paddlewise Subject: Re: [Paddlewise] Artist's change of orbit I cant believe it! Cary - there is a group up in Brevard, think they are called Waveback Watcher... they watch for the newly hatched turtles that get washed back onto shore. May want to consider contacting them. May want to try the local environmental folks up there too they may know how to contact the group or know of other groups. j in santa rosa, ca --- On Mon, 9/8/08, Carey Parks <carey_at_jimparksfamily.com> wrote: From: Carey Parks <carey_at_jimparksfamily.com> Subject: RE: [Paddlewise] Artist's change of orbit To: "James Farrelly" <JFarrelly5_at_comcast.net>, "Craig Jungers" <crjungers_at_gmail.com> Cc: "Paddlewise" <paddlewise_at_paddlewise.net> Date: Monday, September 8, 2008, 7:43 PM Yeah Jim, I know.
