I wonder if he was dressed for immersion. I know I've become a believer
(thanks to Pam). So many missing details in these stories. No idea of the
type of kayak, the skills of the paddler, the weather, etc. The guy did at
least one thing right when he called home to tell his wife when he was
leaving that offshore island. Which, from the looks of it on Google Earth,
is not the sort of paddler a beginner would want to undertake. Especially
solo. Hope he's ok.

The local news said he was experienced and wearing a wet suit.... I also saw
some coast guard footage and it showed the boat with the paddle under the
bungee.????? I am not sure I understand how that could happen. I have
paddled to the Isles a couple of times during perfect conditions. The
nearest landfall from the isles is almost 7 miles. A large crossing to do
alone in any season.

[Please remove all old content that is not pertinent to your reply

The north shore paddlers network is the largest local sea kayaking group, for
coastal NH and Massachusetts.

There's a thread on the nspn message board with links to 4 updates as the
updates became available.

http://www.nspn.org/forum/index.php?s=82bfc7c8a61a7797f259e5a609561803&showtopic=5577

The sequence of events in the articles is interesting in that the coast
guard was called out twice. The first time they located the paddler
having lunch on the isle of shoals. The previous information implied
the paddler had filed a float plan ahead of time. Now it sounds like he
checked back in with the coast guard for his return trip, after having
been located by the first coast guard search.

I had been hoping one of the visitors to nspn.org would be familiar with
the skills and habits of the lost paddler.
