Hard to believe, but Ken decided his Billabong footage wasn't up to broadcast standards and took down the link! I had to shame him into puting it back up. I think you'll agree, we've already wasted too much time with this! New Link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNG9E_-cpIM It was a beautiful day though! Yesterday: We didn't know we were going to create the Billabong Rolling Challenge today. We just set out on a beautiful morning to put in a few miles to start getting in shape for future kayak endeavors. It was almost too warm to be paddling, but it's probably not nice to complain! We launched from the Coast Guard docks and soon were waiting around the jetty with Abalone Point off in the distance. Less than a mile out, there was a large sailboat with its sails furled. We waited a bit as a large, noisy sea plane rumbled by and made a low pass next to the boat. We were wondering if it was the Feds busting a drug boat, as the plane made another circle and came in for a landing. Needless to say, we paddled out to check it out. There were a lot of people standing around on the boat and someone on the plane was inflating a Zodiac. There was a guy standing up through a hatch in the nose cone of the plane, so I figured he must know what was going on! He told me that the boat was out to publicise the problem of trash out in the ocean and they had flown in as a media event to create some interest. The people on the boat didn't look like they were doing anything but enjoying a free ride on the ocean, but who am I to say. Ken got the idea to roll in front of the sea plane and wanted me to take some video, but Barb had the camera and she didn't want to be any part of it! She started paddling off with the camera and Ken had to chase her down to retrieve it. Good thing or we wouldn't have had any record of the first BARC!!! After a while, the people on the boat started to be taken over for a tour of the sea plane and we decided to continue our journey. After our sojourn, we decided to only paddle as far as Crystal Cove, where Ken and I went in for a landing. Being an exceptionally warm day for the season, we were treated to a lovely, bikini clad bathing beauty on her morning constitutional, but Barb missed it by staying out to sea!! We headed home close to shore with the sun high and crystal clear water beneath us! We all said we couldn't remember the water being so clear! Garibaldi were all over the place and mounds and mounds of the greenest sea grass I've ever seen waved to us as we passed. Waves were just about non-existant, but even one sneaker came up to almost send Ken into the reef! We played at BAR and continued on home next to the rocks enjoying the underwater scenes. When we got back to Pirate's Cove, we heard the sea plane fire up and saw it heading off in the distance. We headed off to luncheon at TK Burger, where Ken and Barb argued all through the meal whether or not Barb had eaten Ken's turkey burger!
