I think a fair number of paddlers have a headlamp. It's useful for landings,
finding gloves that slipped off the deck, checking the number on an
unlighted can buoy, seeing which way the kelp is laying in the current, etc.
My only objection to them is that they inevitably interfere with my night
vision. Maybe it's just me but when I turn them on or off I go through a
period of slight problems with balance. (I've also noticed that I can't spin
around many times any more either.)

If the water had a white line and a curb a headlamp would be awesome. Even
so, they're worth having. Just as long as you don't have an obsession that
makes you turn and look at me when you talk to me. :P
