Just want to say my heart goes out to all the people affected by the huge quake and tsunami in Japan and affecting a lot more area. The pictures and video are horrifying! Best wishes to all people there, we hope to hear from some of the Paddlewisers. With sorrow. My son-in-law, Michael, sent out a Facebook message right after the eathquake to say that he rode it out at the Tokyo International Airport while he was waiting to transfer to a United flight back to Seattle. He works in China and was on his way back home when the earthquake hit. We managed to stay in touch with him for several hours before the telecoms there got overrun. He just posted another one about an hour ago saying that he had managed to trade some Chinese money for Japanese money and got the last bit of food from a vending machine at the airport: Ice cream and sardines. LOL We suspect he may be there a couple of days. He's trying to get some sleep. They have all the people out of the terminal and on the tarmac. Luckily the weather is good. Video footage is graphic, horrific, and fascinating to watch at the same time. The giant whirlpool looked like it'd be an epic paddle if you were caught out there. Can't imagine the level of suffering and hardship and displacement and disruption to lives, even if the full scale of damage hasn't been realized yet. A lot of people live there is a small area. Hope the Pacific west coast stays free of a significant seismic event for a few more centuries. Hell of a planet. How ironic that the very things that make the planet suitable for life make it dangerous to live on.
