G'day, I'm having a go at rejoining Paddlewise, after some technical problems in the last few months. The problem was that I could send messages to Paddlewise but not receive them. Paul Hayward had the same problem and I had the good fortune to meet him for the first time at our club Rock n Roll weekend. I'm hoping that the list is still alive and if so look forward to participating again and will let Paul know also. G'day Craig, Good to hear from you and thanks for the feedback which came back channel. Seems I can send but I'm still not receiving Paddlewise and have asked my server administrators to look into whether they are blocking Paddlewise for some reason. Anyway I'm going to try registering via the Hotmail server. Are all the usual contributors around or have you noticed a significant drop off? Now I know that Paul Hayward is also having the problem I'm wondering if its wide spread or maybe it's just the Pacific that's affected. Hi Peter, Yes there is a significant decrease in traffic on Paddlewise... it picks up now and then though. I think Facebook has a large share of the chatter but I do miss the long debates. :P Maybe Kirk can figure out why you are not able to receive traffic from the list. I have been pretty lucky; as far as I know I have missed nothing. Hopefully Paul will get back on, too. Hello Peter: We got a new e-mail program at work, and that program switched from my old e-mail address to my new e-mail address, so some of my outbound e-mails may not have gone anywhere. I actually have no idea if my e-mails ever reached places like paddlewise and our local paddling club. But I think things have mostly been ironed out. It's been winter here in North America, and now spring, if you can call rain and snow spring. So my kayak is sitting idle in the garage, waiting for a very significant increase in temperature. I have been riding my bike to work and around the neighbor. I got hit once by an SUV, and once by a UPS truck. But both times I was wearing a ski jacket, ski gloves, and a helmet. Guess I'll need to wear the same clothes during the summer too. The SUV got my arm in the dark, despite my having three flashing lights on the bike. The UPS truck sent me sprawled into a blackberry patch. The driver had to pull me out. Glad to have health insurance. Is Paddlewise still functional? Yes, as far as I know. But traffic has been slow. I personally have greatly missed the paddling reports from those south of the equator. As the list admin I get bounces when mail servers are set up to bounce email that isn't deliverable. Servers that are set up to black hole email result in no information to me of what succeeded or failed. I've gotten no bounces from Peter or Paul's mail server, so I haven't had any visibility into failures. We have had the wettest March on record in our area. I feel like I live in Seattle! Flood warnings all over the place. It's not like I haven't been thinking about paddling... but most of that thought has been tempered by a big preference for weather that is, at least, warm. And preferably more-or-less dry. We have had one day over 60F and I was shepherding kids around on bicycles that day. :P Soon, though. Sue and I have upgraded from a 21-foot 1972 Streamline trailer to a 1993 Foretravel diesel pusher motor home and expect to spend a lot more time camping, kayaking, bicycling and fishing on local lakes. Fuel prices mitigate against making many trips to Puget Sound and/or Deception Pass, however. But I'm hoping for one or two. Well, if I was paddling more, I'd be writing more! Hoping to get a bit more active soon. We had our big Aqua Adventures San Diego Sea Kayak symposium last weekend, but I didn't even paddle! I was too busy BBQing for everybody. I did get to sing a couple songs around the bonfire, though. Mark Sanders Sent this both ways!
