"Good weather?? Reminds me of the story..."

At the risk of wandering off topic a bit, does anyone else have any
humorous regional weather lore?
This reminded me of some of the old jokes we kick around in Minnesota:

Minnesota is the theatre of six seasons- spring, summer, fall, and winter,
winter, winter.

Or, in another viewpoint, we only have two seasons- Winter and the Fourth
of July.

In Minnesota, Duluth has the most efficient snow removal system- it's
called August.

And so on. (No Sven and Ole jokes, though.)

Reminds me of the time when I was on a paddling trip in Northern
Minnesota. I had just taken out, and all of my clothes were pretty
stinky, so I thought that I would wander around the small town where we
were staying in search of a laundry. As luck would have it, I found a
place called "Sam Ting's Laundry". I went inside and was welcomed by
the proprietor, who spoke with a thick Norwegian accent, and who
introduced himself as Sam Ting. Having lived in Norway myself, I thought
that his name was a bit unusual, since I couldn't recall meeting a
single Norwegian with the name Ting (or with the name Sam, for that
matter). I thus asked him how he came by his name, and he proceeded to
tell me the following story (in his heavily-accented English): "Vell,
ven I got off de boat and stoood in line, dey asked de first man, 'Vat's
your name?', and he said 'Ole Olsen'. And den dey asked de second man,
'Vat's your name?' and he also said 'Ole Olsen'. And den dey asked me,
'Vat's your name?', and I said 'sam ting'!

So there you have it!

A number of years ago I spent a season working at the Guthrie Theatre in
Minneapolis. Shortly after I arrived (in February), I was talking to
someone about the cold, snowy weather, and asked about the other seasons.
He wrinkled his forehead and said "Oh yes, I remember last summer - it
was a Tuesday, and we went on a picnic."

Local Vancouver weather humour(?)

Vancourites don't tan - we rust!

How to use the view of the mountains for weather forecasting:
If you can see the mountians through the clouds, it's going to rain
soon.
If you can't see the mountains through the clouds, it IS raining.

In California, we have all 4 seasons: earthquake, mudslide, fire, and
rioting.

This being farming country here in southern Manitoba, I have concluded that we
only have two seasons - frozen and smelly. Lucky the frozen is about over, and
the smell doesn't usually carry all the way to Lake Winnipeg!

Cheers

In Edinburgh, Scotland, I was told an easy way to predict the weather.
Look at the mountain called Alfred's Seat. If you see a mist on the
mountain, then it will rain within fifteen minutes.
If you don't see a mist on the mountain, then it IS raining.
